Trinidad and Tobago bird species are over 400. The oilbird
is a rare specie of nocturnal bird which feed on fruits
at nights. Their habitats are in caves situated in the
valleys of the northern range and ledges of rocks on the
coastlines. The scarlet ibis is our national bird because
of its colour red which is depicted on the nation flag.
They are consider endangered along with the piping guan
and red headed macaw. Fifteen species of humming birds
are found here since Trinidad and Tobago was called the
land of the humming birds.
Neo-tropical birds, these migratory species
flown to the islands and make their temporay home at the
Nariva swamp annually. The roosting of those birds at
dusk are awesome magnificence. Bird watching sites are
the Caroni Swamp, Nariva swamp, Asa Wright Nature center
,Wild fowl trust, Cumaca cave, Aripo plains, north east
coast and Tobago.
Adult oilbird, Black throated mangoes, White chested
jacobin and yellow oriole.
